The Thrill of Getting It

I am loving the opportunity that I have to coach my son’s 1st and 2nd grade soccer team.  Let’s just say that most of the time it’s controlled chaos.  It’s been a lot of fun and a challenge all at the same time in trying to get 11-12 6 & 7 year old’s where they need to be for drills and to try and keep their attention for more than a couple of minutes at a time.

In spite of the chaos, its truly been a thrill to not only watch the boys improve, but also to watch them make the connection in the game.  It’s a great feeling when they put things together and actually get the purpose of say a pass in a drill or do something we have practiced in a game.  This is one of the things that makes coaching so rewarding.

As I was contemplating this thought it made me think of the Holy Spirit and how He must feel when we “get it.”  When we make the connection between Biblical revelation and life.  This is why it’s so important to know and be in the Word – we have to give ourselves to the Word in order for the teachings of the Word to find themselves into our daily lives.

The Holy Spirit is a lot like a coach.  What a cool thing it must be for Him when the light of revelation turns on in His people and we begin to “get it.”

Well…bath time with the kids is about over and I have just one more thing to say.  I hope we are getting it!

Personal Revelation

If I were a movie fanatic and critic I might be asked questions about what others are saying about a particular movie. My response would be one of universal revelation. In other words I would be disclosing about the movie based upon what I have heard and understand from others. If on the other hand, though, if someone were to know how I personally felt about a movie I would be revealing how I felt about the movie based upon personal revelation. I would be disclosing about the movie based upon my personal experience and opinion.

Matthew 16 records a similar experience that Jesus had with His followers. With the backdrop of Caesarea Philippi, a place of great idolatry and immorality, Jesus asks His disciples a universal question. “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” In response they give Him a good universal answer. “Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.” This universal question quickly turns personal though with the words…”But who do you say that I am?”

This same question is being asked of us today. “Who do you say that I am?”

Do you have personal revelation of Christ? Have you had an encounter, an experience with the living Christ? It is based upon the personal, not universal, revelation that Christ builds His church. His church is built upon the individual experience of each of its members.

Have you had a personal experience with Him?

New Years Revelation

This is the time of the year where you hear a lot of talk about New Years Resolutions. The basic concept involves the resolve or commitment to change – the resolve to do life differently. Maybe you have been asked about your resolutions for the new year? What did you tell them? Have you taken the time to think much about what the new year might hold for you? In case you were wondering, I am still working on it myself. I am thinking more in terms of revelation rather than in terms of resolutions though. While I value the importance of resolve and goal setting I also know that there is a need to get revelation for our lives. There is something to be said about taking the time to hear God for your life. To ask Him for revelation. To ask Him to reveal a little of what your life is going to look like in the next year. To ask Him for an area of focus – a theme you can own for what you are about to enter into. I believe that God wants to prepare us for what He has in 2008. What He has planned is great and will require faith and obedience! A little glimpse into the new year is not a bad idea – how about seeking God for a little revelation? May 2008 be a year of wisdom and revelation!

So…while you are asking God for revelation concerning your life may you enjoy this revelation from T.D. Jakes. And don’t forget to let it go for the new year. May God do something new in and through us in the next year.

Let it go for 2008…by T. D. Jakes

There are people who can walk away from you. And hear me when I tell you this! When people can walk away from you: let them walk. I don’t want you to try to talk another person into staying with you, loving you, calling you, caring about you, coming to see you, staying attached to you. When people can walk away from you let them walk. Your destiny is never tied to anybody that left. The Bible said that, “They came out from us that it might be made manifest that they were not for us. For had they been of us, no doubt they would have continued with us.” [1John 2:19] People leave you because they are not joined to you. And if they are not joined to you, you can’t make them stay. Let them go. And it doesn’t mean that they are a bad person, it just means that their part in the story is over. And you’ve got to know when people’s part in your story is over so that you don’t keep trying to raise the dead. You’ve got to know when it’s dead. You’ve got to know when it’s over. Let me tell you something. I’ve got the gift of good-bye. It’s the tenth spiritual gift. I believe in “good-bye”. It’s not that I’m insenstive or uncaring, it’s that I trust, I know whatever and whomever God means for me to have and be a part of my life He will give. And if a relationship takes too much sweat I don’t need it. Stop begging people to stay. Let them go!! If you are holding on to something or someone who doesn’t belong to you and was never intended for your life, then you need to ..LET IT GO!!! If you are holding on to past hurts and pains .. LET IT GO!!! If someone can’t treat you right, love you back, and see your worth… LET THEM GO!!! If someone has angered you ..LET IT GO!!! If you are holding on to some thoughts of evil and revenge ..LET IT GO!!! If you are involved in a wrong relationship or addictive behavior..LET IT GO!!! If you are holding on to a job that no longer meets your needs or talents .. LET IT GO!!! If you have a bad attitude…LET IT GO!!! If you keep judging others to make yourself feel better…LET IT GO!!! If you’re stuck in the past and God is trying to take you to a new level in Him…LET IT GO!!! If you are struggling with the healing of a broken relationship….LET IT GO!!! If you keep trying to help someone who won’t even try to help themselves.. LET THEM GO!!! If you’re feeling depressed and stressed …LET IT GO!!! If there is a particular situation that you are so used to handling yourself and God is saying “take your hands off of it,” then you need to… LET GO!!! Let the past be the past. Forget the former things. 2007…………….LET IT GO! 2008…………….BRING IT ON! Fresh and new in each moment.

God Bless us all as we move forward into newness with courage and trust that all is well in our world.
