As a community of Christ followers we are working toward the development of a culture that reflects the teachings of Jesus. A culture in which demonstrates the true nature of what it means to be part of a family. We are told to love in word and in deed. In a healthy functioning family love is practiced and not just talked about. While there is no such thing as a perfect family – the health of any family is largely determined by the culture of the family and the love in which they practice toward one another. Without deliberate intention to love we lose the foundational basis for the family structure. The same can be said about our church family. Therefore it needs to be something that we not only talk about, but something that we practice on multiple levels. Love is a great core concept. We can know it and talk about it…but what about practicing it?
I just recently heard on the radio that Wells Fargo employees were given a financial bonus in which they were told that they were to use on someone in need. What a great idea! What a great way to get their employees to think about someone else – to demonstrate love. When you think about it…we the church should be the greatest example of love. What do you say that we love well and that we allow the core of love to transform our church, families, and community.
