Are you self centered or God centered?

Proverbs 14:14 says:

“The backslider in heart will be filled with his own ways, But a good man will be satisfied from above.”

In the above verse, the writer contrasts the difference between a self centered man and a Christ centered man. The self centered man is consumed with himself and finds his fill in his own ways. His path is marked by the pursuit of happiness, self promotion and self gratification. He is deceived into thinking that the answers of life are found in the pursuit of self. What he doesn’t realize though, is that the answers of life are found when we are willing to look outside of ourselves. It is here, when we are willing to look outside of ourselves, that we will discover the true treasures of life. They are not found in the fill of self, but rather in the fill of Christ. Through relationship with Christ, the good (God centered) man finds his satisfaction and fulfillment from above. While the backslider in heart may find fleeting fulfillment, the good man finds fulfillment from above that satisfies the deepest longings of the soul eternally.
